NOVATO PARKS

Although Novato is the second-largest city in the county, it also is the most rural area with 2,600 acres devoted to twenty-seven parks and seven open space preserves. They should have named this place Park City, instead of that little ski town in Utah. Two golf courses, an equestrian center, and a lake round out the recreational opportunities. For information and reservations, call Parks and Recreation at 898-7650 or 897-4323.

Hamilton Park

Hamilton has become a very "kid friendly" neighborhood with a pool, this new play structure...

A very popular skate park, which is the new rage among the youngsters...

And there's tons of open space for the little ones to run & play!

  • Hamilton Airport Park / Palmisano Community Park (Caliente Real & Burma Road)   This park is in the middle of the old Air Force base previously known as Hamilton Field. After years of wrangling with the government and lots of clean-up, this has turned out to be one of the more popular affordable housing developments of Marin with a lot of fun things to do for different ages. There is an outdoor Olympic-sized pool, large baseball field, gymnasium, skate park, historical amphitheater, and children’s play park.   All the play park equipment is new and made of metal and plastic and the equipment sits safely on wood chips and the same high tech rubber mats as Piper Park in Corte Madera. The airport theme is played out in the toys, such as a freestanding airplane and a helicopter. There is limited shade, but the water play sand pits will keep toddlers cool. There is a small lawn and a picnic area with kid-sized picnic tables and large picnic tables, a gazebo, swings and slide next to a larger lawn area. There are restrooms, drinking fountains and food nearby at McDonald’s or the Hamilton Café. Don’t miss the outdoor movies they show for free in the summer. There are two parking lots.
  • Bahia Park (Topaz Drive & Santana Road)    The park is divided into four separate sections interrupted by housing.  There is also a boat dock, lawn area, pool, tennis and basketball courts at the far end. The playground has a metal climbing structure. There are neither restrooms nor drinking fountains and parking is on the street.
  • Josef Hoog Park (Marin Oaks Drive & Montura Way)   This is a large park that stretches for acres. The playground area has a large metal and plastic play structure that sits on wood chips and sand. The play area also includes lots of slides, tunnels, and ladders. There are also volleyball and basketball courts and plenty of picnic and barbecue facilities surrounded by lawn. There are restrooms, drinking fountains and a parking lot.
  • Miwok Park (Novato Boulevard & Amanda Lane)   This park is on the grounds of the museum where seasonal activities and Native American celebrations are ongoing. The playground has a large metal and plastic structure. There are also big kid swings and two slides in a shady area near the oak trees. The large lawn has picnic and barbecue facilities. There are bocce ball and horseshoe courts on the opposite side of the museum. The park has restrooms, drinking fountains and a parking lot.

Horseback ride at Stafford Lake.

Our annual company picnic is held at Stafford Lake, which is always a great time! They often have concerts here too.

  • Stafford Lake Park  (Novato Boulevard & Stafford Lake)   There are many things to do at this 139-acre park, such as:  fishing, boating, horseshoes, volleyball, softball, disc golf, picnic and barbecue facilities -- in fact, barbecue facilities are available for groups up to 500.  There is a nature trail and expansive lawn areas. The playground is made of wood and metal and sits on sand and offers a great lake view.  There are two toddler full-bucket swings and two big kid swings, and a climbing gym with slides.  There are restrooms, drinking fountains and a parking lot.  A day use fee is charged.
  • Slade Park (Davidston Street & Manuel Drive)   The park is a large, grassy field bordered by trees on one side. The picnic area has a very large barbecue pit and one long picnic table, partially covered with shade. The playground has two play areas on sand. The toddler structure has two swings and a plastic and metal gym with two short plastic slides and a set of speaking tubes. The other area has four big kid swings, a curly slide, and a tube slide. There is a portable toilet, drinking fountains and a small parking lot.
  • Pioneer Park (Novato Boulevard & Simmons Lane)   This park has four tennis courts, a barbecue and picnic area and a dormant cement waterfall in addition to well-tended lawns and flower borders. An historic cemetery is located on the hill. There is limited shade, a few benches and a gazebo that can be reserved. The playground has two play areas, both on wood chips. The toddlers have two swings, a helicopter, a playhouse, a coil rocking horse and a small metal and plastic gym with a plastic slide. There is also a sand pit area with an excavator and a platform with a waterspout for mixing and watching as the mix pours down through the tunnels. The big kid area has three swings, a tire swing and a labyrinth of metal and plastic ladders and tunnels. Dogs are welcome on a leash. There are restrooms, drinking fountains and a parking lot.
